Dental Implants
at Dentalcare WestburyWhat are Dental Implants?
A missing tooth or missing multiple teeth can cause embarrassment and greatly affect your confidence. At Dentalcare Westbury, we will talk through your options to replace gaps in your teeth and these can include dentures, bridges or dental implants.
Dental implants are becoming more popular with patients as they are the only permanent option to replace a missing tooth or missing teeth.
A dental implant is made up of a titanium post which is gently inserted into your jawbone acting as the root of your tooth. A crown or bridge then sits on top of this to act as your new tooth.
Your missing teeth options
You are missing a tooth
We provide dental implant treatment for replacing a single tooth
You are missing multiple teeth
We have dental implants treatment for multiple missing teeth
All your teeth are missing
We offer treatment to replace all the teeth on your lower or upper jaw
The type of dental implant that you have will generally depend upon how many teeth you wish to replace. Your dentist can give you more advice about which is best for you at your appointment.
Single dental implant
This is the best option if you have one missing or failing tooth. The implant is gently inserted into your jawbone and the crown is then is added on to the top. Sometimes you will be given a temporary crown until your permanent crown can be made for you.
All-On-4 dental implants
This is a good option if you have multiple missing teeth or no teeth at all. Just 4 implants are inserted into your gums and this supports a complete set of new teeth, giving you a brand-new smile. Whilst this might sound drastic, the all-on-4 dental implants are beneficial for many missing teeth in that they are cost-effective and can have a faster healing time rather than having several single dental implants.

Frequently asked questions about Dental Implants
Are dental implants better than dentures?
Dentures and implants both have advantages and disadvantages and it is a good idea for you to find out more information at your dentist who can help you to decide which is the best option for you. Dentures are cheaper than dental implants, but they can cause more issues and discomfort than dental implants. The main benefit of dental implants is that they are fixed in place and act like permanent teeth.
How long do dental implants take to have fitted?
This depends upon each patient. Your dentist will need to consider the health of your gums and current teeth along with your general health. Some implants can be fitted in the same day giving you same-day-teeth. Other implants will be more complicated and could take months to fix if your gums and bone require more care.
How long do dental implants last?
Again, this depends upon each patient. Most dental implants last for many years and the life of your dental implants can be prolonged with good oral hygiene.
